Our Royal Doulton Balloon Lady- Fiona Cornell

Some Royal Doulton collectors may prefer “The Balloon Man” over the “The Old Balloon Seller,” for instance. Others may want the figurines as part of the decor of a specific room in the home. In that case, all the figurines need to fit in with the atmosphere of the room and existing colour scheme. In the same vein, our local Carleton Place balloon and party rental lady, Fiona Cornell has it it all for any type of party.

I had no idea that she had originally owned the Cody franchise near Staples. But, when the company decided they wanted to move lock, stock, and barrel to Ottawa, she took her inventory, and opened her own business C.P Party on Bates Drive in Carleton Place.

Fiona had been in the insurance business for 25 years, and knew it was time to do something else. She thought she had the perfect location near our local liquour store until she saw what was really up. It seems when people do visit that area, Mum and Dad visit the liquour store while Junior lounges around in Starbucks. She just wasn’t getting the traffic she expected.

Fiona realizes she is a little out of the way now, but people who want the creative side of balloon display end up finding her. She also has all sorts of occasion balloons, wedding supplies, and anything you need for a party. Glassware, tables, chairs, linens, dishes, and the list goes on. Need a popcorn or cotton candy machine? How about a chocolate fountain, or a sno-cone machine? This woman has not missed a trick!

Fiona has always been a small town girl. She trekked her way from Prospect, and came to settle in the big city of Carleton Place. She loves the small town feel, and feels most businesses in town can compete with the big guys in Ottawa.

If she had a magic wand she would ask the people of Carleton Place to give the local merchants a chance. Remember, our lives are like a balloon…if you never let yourself go, you will never know how far you can rise. Don’t let a woman like Fiona and others in Carleton Place ever get away. Like Winnie the Pooh said, “No one can ever be uncheered by a balloon”!
