John Buchanan and Mary Ilan didn’t move to Appleton. They are resting peacefully in the Laidly Cemetery in Mayberly. It was my grandfather George Wilbert Buchanan and his wife Amy Luella Barnes (my grandmother) who moved to the farm in Appleton. He had sold the farm in Mayberly (300 acres) and purchased the Appleton farm (150 acres) for about the same price but much better farmland along the Mississippi. Later giving up farming to operate the general insurance business in CP. Incidentally, the Appleton farm was laterly owned by John and Edith Clark who ran it as a chinchilla farm until John’s death. They were close friends with my Mom and Dad for many years. Edith (a delightful person) remained in the house for many decades after John died and last I heard she was in a seniors residence somewhere in the area. Hope this helps. Mary Adams should visit the Laidley Cemetery. She would be most interested as it’s filled with our family– Doug McCarten
