Death of an Old Settler

We regret to record the death of an old and respected resident of the township of Lanark, in the person of James Trodden, which occurred on Sunday morning, May 23rd, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. R. A . Wright, Lake Avenue. The deceased was born in the town of Moatt, in the county of Westmeath, Ireland, and came to this country fifty-four years
ago.

He walked from Ottawa, passing through Carleton Place when there were but a few houses, and settled on lot No. 8 on the sixth con. of Lanark, where he resided until about two years ago, when he came to live with his daughter. His wife died four years ago. There were but two children—Christopher, of the homestead, and Mrs. Wright, of this town. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon to the Catholic church and cemetery, Ferguson’s Falls.

The pall-bearers were Messrs Michael Murphy, Jas. Smith, Thos. Woods, Michael Vallely, Wm. Fennelson, John Kenny. The deceased was in his seventy-fifth year.
