Tom Edwards–That sign behind the float is Campbell Sports. Dean McDiarmid had a dentist office on the second floor above the store. If I am not mistaken this was the store that Sears used to be in and Nancy Code Miller was there with Impressions and now it is Caroussel.

Tom EdwardsI remember your dad very well Carla Coker. I remember when they started Viking Helicopters. Stewart Ferguson worked for them for a few years as a driver. I think Mr Campaugh was involved in the startup. Maybe another fellow Brian Greene. They were in that stone building on Hwy 7. I used to drive taxi here in town, while going to high school and I used to pick quite a few of them up at the airport and bring them back to CP.

Carla CokerThis was a float by Viking Helicopters (complete with a helicopter)! My dad, Roy Coker, worked there. He was dressed as Klinger in one of my mom’s coats with gaudy costume jewellry and looked the part. Wish I had a photo of him!

Lynne JohnsonMy father, Jack Johnson, worked for a bit at Viking Helicopters on Hwy. 7.

Viking Helicopters moved close to Carleton Place, and into the grand old stone house, which was used as the office building and the hangars were nearby. After a number of years the stone house caught fire and the contents were destroyed. A couple of the “overnighters” narrowly escaped that night.
