Kiss My Apple Cheeks– Memories

Photo from the Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum

Remember when Apple Cheeks was where our green goddess Erica is now on Bridge Street?

I like Krista Lee from Apple Cheeks. We share some sort of kindred spirit, and I feel like I have known her for years. Yesterday I was in there promoting the Authors for Indies event at Reads Book Store on Bridge Street Saturday and she had this fantastic toy on her desk. I immediately thought of my son Sky as he likes toy trinkets like his Mother. The fact that it was musical enticed me even more. I decided I would keep it. Krista advised me that it might need new batteries so off I went with it in a bag to take pictures of doorways on Bridge Street. As I dropped my flyers off I heard barking and immediately thought how wonderful these store owners were to have one of those dog barking doorbells. I was so impressed! Read more here..

You know that concept… “Cookie Cutter”… it’s used to describe the neighborhoods where all the homes have the same trim, the same paint, the same lawn…and kids wearing the same style of clothing.

So how do you handle back to school shopping so your kids don’t look like they shopped at the “big box stores” when they go back to school? How do you do it cost effectively so its not like “Running with the Bulls” –only more dangerous? Back to school shopping is such a fun activity– said no parent ever, and it seems to last for a whole week. Head on down to Apple Cheeks Consignment store on Bridge Street in Carleton Place where your kids can get great unique clothes at a fraction of the cost.

Before you go shopping, make an inventory of things you already have. That way, you eliminate unnecessary expenditure. Allow children to participate in creating the shopping list. Okay, that could be a hit or miss, but owner Krista Lee has it all.

I like a teacher who gives you something to take home to think about besides homework. How many pairs of shoes will become missing this year? Stock up!

In elementary school, many a true word is spoken in guess. You don’t need to guess your size- Apple Cheeks is bound to have any size!

Training is everything. The peach was once a bitter almond; cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education.– This coat looks like it was bought in an upscale shop that had an education! Get it at a fractions of the cost!

When a subject becomes totally obsolete we make it a required course. This sheep hat is required! Wish it came in adult sizes.

You learn something every day if you pay attention. Kids don’t pay attention to rain mud and dirt. Mothers do! Muddy Buddy is Mom’s best friend!

Home computers are being called upon to perform many new functions, including the consumption of homework formerly eaten by the dog. The dog better not eat these nifty boots!

School teachers are not fully appreciated by parents until it rains all day Saturday. These boots are perfect for any rainy day!

Free every Monday through Friday at school– knowledge. Bring your own containers. And make sure your pants aren’t falling down. These Dapper Snappers are guaranteed to eliminate droopy drawers and come in adult sizes too for those “plumber crack” situations!

Being a child at home alone in the summer is a high-risk occupation. If you call your mother at work thirteen times an hour, she can give you the stinkeye. But how can anyone get mad at you when the prices are so cheap on these toys? Miss Krista will even let you hold them while Mom is shopping.

It doesn’t make much difference what you study, as long as you don’t like it. Your baby sister or brother might not like shopping with those new teeth coming through– so Miss Krista has the answer to that too.

Labor Day is a glorious holiday because your child will be going back to school the next day. It would have been called Independence Day, but that name was already taken. Never mind about school, your Mom rocks if she brings you to Apple Cheeks to shop!

Arriving daily!

But I love Halloween, and I love that feeling: the cold air, the spooky dangers lurking around the corner. Halloween costumes!

There’s something very powerful about finding snow in summer. Well thankfully there was no snow this summer, but Apple Cheeks has snowsuits arriving daily. Now taking fall and winter clothing Wednesday to Saturday! Call for info!

Trashies, and Shopkins coming in soon!

It’s The McNeely’s Baseball Team!

Marion Giles McNeely said:

“Hey look, it’s the Mc Neely’s baseball team made up of all the McNeely brothers. They were the winningest baseball team around, no team ever beat them. They were the team to beat but no one could. Krista Lee from Apple Cheeks in Carleton Place is holding the picture with her grandfather in it.  There was 12 boys and 1 girl so they had enough for a team and spares.”

Knock it out of the park McNeely’s!
