I didn’t know which picture to use of Lisa Strangway. As with most women I have interviewed, she wears many hats. Some dream of success, others wake up and work very hard at it. Lisa organizes and volunteers for many of our local Carleton Place events, but she also is a devoted Ottawa Senators fan. Which Lisa do I pick? After thinking on this for awhile I decided I couldn’t just choose one.
Raised in Ottawa and a self-proclaimed city girl, Lisa moved to Carleton Place eight years ago with her husband Ken. She loves the small town vibe of Carleton Place and the convenience of being so close to the city. Since moving here she has become immersed in town activities and tries to get involved as much as time allows. She created a popular Facebook group called Carleton Place Social Scene which has become the go-to place for residents to find out about upcoming events, community activities or to have neighborly discussions. It was in this group that the idea came up to organize a winter carnival in Carleton Place. Along with a great team of women, who have since become friends, she has chaired the volunteer organizing committee that planned the now annual event.
After 14 years with the Ottawa Senators she decided to hang up her skates and pursue a new and exciting opportunity. In March 2014 she went into business for herself and created The Marketing Station; a one-stop shop that can promote your business. With the creation of her business just a little over a year ago, she hasn’t looked back once. Lisa knows how to make noise and cut through social media clutter, she can help you put bums in seats, increase sales, drive traffic and create brand awareness. She has 20-years of experience in marketing, promotions, event planning and project management. Some of her biggest projects include working on International events and being on the Host Organizing Committee for the IIHF 2009 World Junior Championship and the IIHF 2013 Women’s World Championship.
Lisa is passionate about her community and supports local charities, shopping local and helping out when needed. Since experiencing the concept of neighbours helping neighbours she can see how her lifestyle has changed for the better since moving here. Lisa wants to be around people that dream and support and do things. So you will never catch Lisa stuck in any penalty box!
When she’s not working she loves to support her husband and his comedy shows, which are scheduled monthly at Ballygiblin’s Pub & Restaurant. Lisa loves to laugh in life, and just might admit a secret craving for Led Zeppelin and AC/DC once in awhile. She’s a proud sister and aunt to two nieces and a nephew. She’s also mom to four fur-babies – dog Coco, cats Charlie and Missy and ferret Miko.
Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky once said you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Our Lisa Strangway is never going to miss a shot– ever.,
