The somewhat remarkable case of Reynolds vs. Jamieson was heard at the Peterborough, Ontario Assizes last week. Mrs. Reynolds, a widow residing in Cavan, about 45 years of age, brought action against Samuel Jamieson, of Millbrook, man understood to be wealthy and about 75 years old, for $30,000 damages for breach of promise of marriage. The case was heard at the spring assizes, when Justice McMahon dismissed the case without sending it to the jury, as the complainant had dismissed her suitor and refused to take him back. On appeal, however, a new trial was ordered, and it accordingly came up again. This time the old man was assessed for $800.
