Looking for Information on Pooh Bell & The Powder Puffs

She was related to Milne who wrote Winnie the Pooh and liked to put a lot of mashed potatoes on your plate at events. She was the mother of the Bell Boys of course and did a lot of work for the Carleton Place Canoe Club.Pooh also ran the Pond Motel on Highway 7. Can I have any more info please?

Linda Gallipeau Johnson emailed me last night with this comment:

Linda, in a conversation about racing yesterday i was telling my grandson about the go-kart race track on the far end of High Street – the ladies that raced were called “Powder Puffs” as i remember. Also remember our neighbor Marion Menzies – Grade 3 teacher at Central used to race as well as her husband. Wonder if there were ever any pictures taken?

Jamie BellThank you everyone for all the kind words spoken about my mother. She was definitely a character. She loved the Canoe club and did whatever she could to help the kids and the club. She opened her home and her heart to the Carleton Place Canoe club and served as Commodore, finish line judge, fund raiser and numerous other roles. Pooh was a wonderful lady and a devoted mother and I miss her dearly.

Heidi PuckettSounds like the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree. ❤️

  1. Mary Cook would be good to get hold of as well. She and Wally have been friends of the Menzies’ for years. I think they are both living in the condos on Dufferin Street.

    • I know Mary and Wally well. He was a great help to me when I fought to get the industrial park renamed to the Dunlop Business Park.. 51 years in the making.. and so glad Wally and Mary were there to help
