The Louis on Sarah Street for $43,500 — Before and After– Architecture in Carleton Place

February 1974- Advertised in an Ottawa newspaper

 From what I can see they built 3 identical “The Louis” homes on Sarah Street in a 2 block radius- They are not exactly the same as the illustration- missing basement windows- but perhaps that was a design change or this was the home that started at the $41,000 price. I found two grey brick and one brown brick “The Louis” on Sarah Street. Interesting seeing the before and after– and what they changed after the advertising. They all have the mini mansard roofs and are identical. My friend John Farrell suggested they might have built more but were torn down for the newer homes.

Norma Ford My Mother and myself were born on Sarah Street. I remember before they put the sewer/water, sidewalks, when it flooded it was like a creek. There was a wooden sidewalk on the East side, much higher than the dirt road. The year of the hurricane it was a lake. What fun place and street to grow up on.
